150,00 baina ya Tigona CCBRT
As part of
its commitment to promote community wellbeing, Tigo has awarded $150,000
(320m/-) over the course of three years to Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in
Tanzania (CCBRT) to support clubfoot treatments at its Disability Hospital.
Announcing this
initiative in Dar es Salaam today, Tigo Tanzania General Manager, Diego
Gutierrez, said that this support of clubfoot treatments demonstrates Tigo’s continuing
commitment to support healthcare service provision at CCBRT. Previously, Tigo
funded surgeries to correct cleft lip/ palate.
“More than 1,300 children have benefitted from life-changing cleft lip
and palate surgeries at CCBRT over the past three years. This is an achievement
that makes all of us at Tigo feel very proud. Through treating people living with
disabilities, Tigo and CCBRT are making a lasting impact on the wellbeing of
individuals, families and communities in Tanzania,” Gutierrez said.
CCBRT’s
Chief Executive Officer, Erwin Telemans shared, “1,700 children are born with
clubfoot each year in Tanzania and because of this condition, they will have
difficulty walking or could even be prevented from walking at all.”
Telemans
added: “People living with clubfoot can experience challenges attending school
or earning an income, and often face discrimination in their communities.
However, clubfoot is treatable. If a child can access treatment for clubfoot at
a very young age, the treatment is also very inexpensive. CCBRT is proud to
partner with Tigo to help reach all Tanzanians in need of clubfoot care.”
